Birthdayboy, close your eyes! April 19, 2009

Filed under: Uncategorized — onnanoamimono @ 9:47 am

For Malia’s birthday boy, who is turning 7 tomorrow but is having a big party this afternoon, I made the following item (he requested pirate-stuff):

It’s a singlet from H&M. I copied a real pirateflag (Emmanuel Wynne’s) and painted it on a piece of linen. I outlined the paint with stitches with fosforised sewingthread, can you imagine how awesome that shirt will be if it’s suddenly getting dark?

Here’s a close-up.

I hope he likes it!

Before being accused for not blogging often enough (like Malia was, haha) I just want to tell you I am still alive and crafting. But mainly designing stuff I cannot show you yet. But I will soon. Promise!

In the meantime, here’s a video. It’s not related to crafting, not at all.

It’s Mando Diao. Can’t get the song out of my head.

of a dyeing experiment:

Handspun 2-ply white merino (thickythinny) dyes with onionskins. Goldenbrown with a touch of orange (that totally depends of how you look at it)

I just popped my first skein of handspun merino (2-ply) in a bath of onionskinsoup. I am not sure if or how this will work out, but it’s fun to experiment a little.

And now just wait…

Raha Scarf March 16, 2009

Made the Raha Scarf from the latest book from Nancy Bush Knitted Lace of Estonia for Hennie. It was a fun pattern to knit and I love how it came out after blocking.

The yarn is GGH Merino Soft, Color 94 from Penelope Craft

Born in the ’70s March 3, 2009

Yes, another FO! I bought the yarn for this socks at the Handwerkbeurs in Zwolle on the 21st, started these socks for Pepijn on the 24th, finished them on the 1st of March.

I think it’s stripes and colors are a ’70s theme, so I kept singing this Ed Harcourt over and over while knitting.

They fit Pepijn very well. I didn’t use a pattern, just a figure8 toe and shortrow heels. 60 st. in the round on needles size 3.

Finally finished these stockings. They took me AGES. I was suffering the SSS. Started and finished the first sock in November 08, started and finished the second sock in February. Just in time for spring!

Didn’t follow the whole pattern, I did shortrowheels. I know, I am lazy 🙂

The yarn is Knitpicks bare sockyarn. Dyed with logwood and used alum as a mordant. I think the color is very pretty.

How a heart saved my mitten. February 16, 2009

Filed under: Uncategorized — onnanoamimono @ 2:23 pm

on Valentinesday I discovered a hole in my Melina Mitten!

I already wasn’t very pleased the way the yarn behaved (pilling, out of shape,) but this was the limit!  (maybe I shouldn’t be so harsh on the yarn. I wear the mittens every single day)

Luckily I had some Cascade to save my hands from getting cold. With a heart ofcourse.

It was Valentinesday after all.

(I notice the heart starts to felt already. Well as I said I do wear these mittens A LOT, it’s a great pattern by Malia and you can purchase it at Penelope Craft)
